The

officially
launched
just a
few
months
ago with
the main
goal of
marketing
South
Africa
as one
of the
world’s
great
golfing
destinations
both
locally
and
internationally.
It is
the
first
time a
national
body has
been
created
to
represent
the
interests
of an
industry
worth
approximately
R60bn
per year
– and
has now
received
backing
at the
very
highest
level.
At a
special
event in
Pretoria
today
(Tuesday
August
16th)
The
Deputy
Minister
of
Tourism,

Xasa,
said
that she
was
proud
and
excited
to be
part of
a united
front
aimed at
promoting

Africa
as a
golf

One of
the main
drivers
for the
creation
of SAGTA
was
South
Africa
receiving
Golf
Destination

Year
2011 for
the
African,
Indian
Ocean
and Gulf
States
from the
International
Association
of Golf
Tour
Operators
(IAGTO)
in Spain
in
November
2011 at
the
annual
International
Golf
Travel
Market.
Now, the
government
has
shown
its
support
and has
given
official
custodianship
of the
trophy
to SAGTA
in
perpetuity.
Deputy
Minister
Xasa
said
today:
“I would
like to
start by
acknowledging
and
congratulating

fraternity
for the
recognition
by the

(IAGTO)
for
